In the quarterly clash of titans known as the INL Championship Game, The Babes and LaggU met for the second time this season.
Hal was agreed on by the captains to be used as the neutral server. Unfortunately, loss was pretty bad all around, especially for the umd and uwash players (as you can see in the stats which follow this post). This seemed to be a net disadvantage for LaggU, since they have a lot more uwash guys than we have umd guys.
As decided by Tom Holub's coin toss, LaggU was home and was allowed to newgalaxy until they were happy. We ended up taking Fed (Den and Can agri). LaggU went with Rom (Ind and Ald agri).
LaggU had about a 10 army advantage after initial bombing, which was quickly evened up by a couple of early dooshes. The Babes surged forward to a 13-7-0 lead, initially taking Cap, Eri and Ald (the Rom's corner agri.) While LaggU went about retaking their back wall planets, we captured Ind and Reg. LaggU brought it's base down to shore up the frontline, but was soon caught +7 by a Babe snap ogg.
With ZephBase in battle mode and the romulan gap working for us, the frontline was fairly secure for most of the game. The planet count fluctuated around 13-3, with a lot of take/retake happening around Hyd, Sir, and Eri. I think 15-5 was the largest lead we managed during the game. The Babes switched to scout dropping in an attempt to bring their army advantage into play. Unfortunately, this advantage never really materialized due to the LaggU's smothering ASW and extremely thorough bombing.
With about a half hour to go, LaggU got another base and brought it down to contest the line. Concerned that it might be used to create a last-minute-push army hoard, the Babes went after it pretty viciously. It died after a couple of waves, but LaggU had used the opportunity to bring the game back to 11-9-0 with only about 15 minutes to play.
The main difference in the game at this point was that we had Zephlin's base alive to rewl the front and farm our front-line agri. Good Man!!! shuttled armies to the base, which we used during the last seven minutes or so to retake the Rom front. The last several minutes were fairly anti-climactic, as LaggU simply didn't have the armies necessary to retake the planets. And so the game ended 13-3-0.
Thanks to LaggU for putting up a good game despite very poor lag. I'd have to give Babes' MVP to Dave, who (with a little help from his friends. ;-) kept the base on the Rom front the entire game.

I died at the HW after fending off a 5-6 man wave (still warp 2) I then retreated to the HW to repair. At this time LaggU got a bunch of pops and everyone assumed the base was ok at the HW, I called for help and Justin tried to help but he was too low on fuel to really be able to help, Bewm I died +7
My 2nd base however was killed by a snapp ogg (+0) The wave itself wasnt all that impressive but I fucked up seriously by pressoring the wrong ship and took serious damage from the first 3 oggers, then a couple of missed phasers at closerange did me in. Nice snap ogg tho.

Good game Dave!
